Ken Cohn led a consulting project that made collaboration between the medical staff and administration possible. Leaders from each department in the hospital presented to the Medical Advisory Panel which was composed of a broad representation from the medical staff. The result of this structured dialogue was four major clinical initiatives of importance to the majority of the medical staff, which were endorsed by the administration and approved by the board of directors.

Value-Based Purchasing/ Global Fee Webinars

Are You Ready for Global Fees?

The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services has already begun to offer demonstration projects in Colorado, Oklahoma, New Mexico, and Texas to providers who will accept a single fee for all medical services delivered in a single episode of care. Not only must the payer and providers agree on the total fee, but all providers (including the physicians and hospital) must agree on how they will divide the fee.

Please join Ken Cohn MD, Jay Sultan, and Mary Reed for two webinars on this important subject, that will have implications for physician-hospital relations at all non-governmental hospitals, Tuesday December 16, 2008 and January 13, 2009, 12-1:30 PM Eastern (9-10:30 AM Pacific).

Webcast Summaries:

Session I: Tuesday December 16, 2008
12:00 – 1:30 p.m. EST
What is Value Based Purchasing (VBP), why should you care, and what you need to do to prepare?

The good news? One of the top priorities of the incoming administration is healthcare reform. Value Based Purchasing and global fees offer an opportunity to deliver higher quality, more efficient, affordable care. The bad news? Global fees are probably coming to all hospital organizations in the United States, regardless of the hospital’s level of preparation. There will be winners and losers, based on whether they are ready, or not.

Attendees will learn:

Speaker: Kenneth H. Cohn, MD, MBA, FACS, CEO, HealthcareCollaboration.com
Speaker: Jay Sultan, Principal, Healthcare Transformations
Moderator: Ronald J. Schmidt , Principal, DMI Transitions

Session II: Tuesday January 13, 2009
12:00 – 1:30 p.m. EST
Immediate opportunities, case study and discussion roundtable

Value Based Purchasing is coming, pushed not only by CMS for Medicare and Medicaid services, but also by commercial payers looking for ways to differentiate their services, and those of their network of health care providers.

In order to be prepared for VBP, an organized group of physicians, hospitals and other providers must collaborate to deliver an entire range of services and to agree on the division of care, costs and reimbursement, and systems to manage care and costs.

This session leads participants through a case study involving a hospital system that implemented a global pricing strategy for certain services, leading to increased market share and profitability. The case study will be followed by an interactive roundtable discussion led by physician, hospital leadership, and consultant speakers.

Attendees Will Learn:

Speaker: Kenneth H. Cohn, MD, MBA, FACS, CEO, HealthcareCollaboration.com
Speaker: Jay Sultan, Principal, Healthcare Transformations
Moderator: Mary C. Reed, Principal, DMI Transitions

The price to attend each webinar is $285. This includes participation in the live webinar as well as a recording of each session. For those that cannot attend on the specified dates, recordings will be available post-conference that will allow you and your organization unlimited access to the webinars.
